Ori : Design for Death

How might we design for people who are aware of their mortality and want to leave memories behind for their loved ones?

 
 

A two week collaboration between interaction design and product design students to explore sound design with product and interaction details. The design aims at strengthening the bond between a person and his/her loved one who has passed away.

Ori wins Student Runner-up at Core77 in Interaction Design category.

Ori gets recognised with Honorable mention by Fast Company Innovation by Design, 2017 in the Student Category. 

 

WHY DEATH? 

Well, why not? Nobody speaks about this inevitable occurrence. We looked at the experience of death as something that needs to be embraced in order to be healed.

THE TWO USER SCENARIOS

One use who records his/her dying thoughts and one user who receives the messages after the first user has passed away. 

 
 

MAKING AND TESTING

With simple lighting and sound codes, we tested the concept out with real users. Wizard of Oz process helped us achieve authentic results.
